The Monterey County Theatre Alliance promotes awareness and appreciation of the quality and diversity of local live theatre by acting as a liaison between venues, artists and the public.
About MCTA
The Monterey County Theatre Alliance (MCTA) is a non-profit organization with a membership of local producers, actors, tech-persons, play-goers, open to anyone interested in live theatre in Monterey County. Our mission is to promote the quality, diversity and community of local live theatre and of the theatre artists in Monterey County.

We try to facilitate communication and resource sharing among Monterey County Theatre groups, individuals and the community to develop an increased theatre awareness and a larger theatre-going public.  We also attempt to nurture the talents and resources of the theatrical community.

To those ends, MCTA does the following;
  
  Publicity

The majority of our members are active theatre-goers.who believe in the value of live theatre. To support these members MCTA maintains and enhances a monthly newsletter and web site.

Back Stage, the monthly newsletter, includes sections on current productions, auditions, a monthly calendar of plays, a master calendar of plays scheduled for the year, articles about the history of the theatres, and many other articles about the various theatres, actors, directors and tech-persons. The Backstage is provided either as an emailed digital copy or paper copy via US mail

The MCTA maintains a web site that provides information about current (" Now Showing " page) and upcoming (" Coming Soon" page) productions to both locals and those planning to visit or move to Monterey County. The web site lists details about each show, i.e. the theatre, name of the show, dates, a short description, and a "buy tickets" link to the theatre's individual web site. Our web site links to other Monterey tourism sites.  The web site is updated frequently to keep the information current
  Enrichment

Members enjoy discounted tickets, two for one (BOGO) for selected performances at participating theatres.

Members are invited to MCTA social events and discounted theatre gatherings, for example, a post-performance Q&A session with the show's director and actors.  These events are held approximately every two months.
  
  Theatre Employment

Theatres use the Back Stage and the web site to announce "help wanted", "volunteers needed," internships available, and audition announcements for their respective plays.
  
  
Producing and Affiliates Membership

We support our MCTA Producing Members by advertizing shows, post audition announcements and classes for actors on the web site and in the newsletter. We work with the Producers to post a  theatre company's season as early in the year as possible.  Space is available for special advertisements at a reduced rate. MCTA actively shares links with other web sites to expand visibility  for Monterey live theatre.  The web site supports social media interface with Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Affiliates who produce only one or two shows a year, have their organization's  information  in the newsletter and on the website.
  
  
Scholarships and Education

MCTA awards two  scholarships a year for graduating Monterey County high school or community college students who have been accepted to college or will transfer to a college to study Theatre Arts.  MCTA has a yearly fund raising event, with all proceeds going to the scholarship account.  Donations to MCTA can be earmarked as a scholarship donation.

MCTA promotes youth theatre in Monterey County by posting classes, workshops, and productions at theatre schools as well as productions at local public and private schools on the web site and in the newsletter.
  
  
MCTA is a 501(c)(3) 95-6163002 is supported by grants, membership dues, and private donations.
  
  MCTA's Board of Directors

The board meets monthly, on  the 3rd Monday of the month at 5:30 PM. Meeting locations usually alternate between Golden Bough in Carmel and The Green Room of the Western Stage, Salinas. All are welcome to attend.  Current Board meeting schedule is:

Membership in the MCTA renews annually on January 1st.

Annual dues are $10 for Full-time Students or Stage Society Members (digital only newsletter)
$20 for Individual Members, (digital only newsletter)
$30 for Affiliate Members and $60 for Producing Members
(Additional $10/yr for hardcopy newsletter to defray printing and mailing costs).
